Meet the Artist: John Fewings

Card number 1 in the Tree-Free Canada Arts series is this fun cartoon by John Fewings. John submitted a whole portfolio from his “It’s Canada, Eh” series and it was hard to choose one for the launch but this card seemed to resonate with everyone who saw it.

Since it’s announcement, “Our Battlecry” has been one of the most talked about cards we’ve ever produced with consumers calling in to find retail locations.

Originally from Simcoe Ontario, John has resided “in the heart of the Kawarthas” for the past 30 years.
 
The natural beauty of the province has captivated John since his early experience working with Parks Ontario at Long Point on Lake Erie.
 
In high school he discovered that he had a talent for drawing and painting and began doing caricatures of his teachers to piss them off and entertain his friends, it worked on both counts. He has been making art ever since.
 
Today John divides his time between creating editorial cartoons
for Canadian newspapers, painting landscapes and abstracts and enjoying time with his family, Border collie Zodi, Gale and the rest of the gang.
